FOR CELLISTS: AMATEUR, ASPIRING ............... AND CURIOUS

“Formal” (Classical) Repertoire

Here you will find wonderful pieces of “formal” music (in contrast to “popular” music), written originally for a different instrument, but transcribed here with the cello as the melody instrument. For example: opera arias, songs (lieder), music for other string and wind instruments, piano pieces where the melody is given to the cello etc.

We have used the term “formal music” rather than “classical music” in order to avoid confusion with music of the “Classical Period”

You can search for music according to its historical period, for example:

Renaissance   Baroque   Classical  Romantic  Modern

Or you can search according to these other criteria:

Genre     Region   Instrumental Combination
