FOR CELLISTS: AMATEUR, ASPIRING ............... AND CURIOUS

LATIN AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC

The following pieces are taken from the Play-Along Album for violin “World Music -Argentina” published by Universal Editions. These are compositions or arrangements by Diego Collati but are presented here with some minor “improvements” and modifications for cello.  The original CD accompaniments are still however perfectly valid.

chacarera

zamba

We know that the Sarabande was an import from Latin America.  On listening to this Zamba – also a a slow dance in 3 with a strongly expressive second beat  – it is hard not to wonder if perhaps the Sarabande was not derived from this “Zamba” dance form.
