Mozart Piano Sonata Nº 6 in D K284: Transcribed For Cello And Simple Accompaniment
Here is Mozart‘s Sixth Piano Sonata K284 in D major, in a transcription for cello and simple accompaniment. The entire sonata has been transposed down by a tone, in order to find both the best register and the best key for the cello adaptation. This brings the outer movements into C major and the slow movement into G major. The simple accompaniments are offered in two versions: one for piano (or guitar/harp) and another for a second cello.
FIRST MOVEMENT: Allegro
SECOND MOVEMENT: Andante: Rondeau en Polonaise
Bars 78-84 are taken down an octave to make them easier.
THIRD MOVEMENT: Theme and Variations
This movement is a monster! With its theme and twelve variations (including an almost four-minute magical adagio variation [No. 11]), it lasts approximately fifteen minutes and requires a minimum of five pages of music for the cello part.
The last two notes of bar 32 (Variation I) have been altered to make this extremely difficult passage more playable on the cello.
