Piazzolla: Libertango: For Cello

Written in 1974, this is one of Astor Piazzolla‘s most well-known works. The version offered here for cello (+ accompaniment) is more like an arrangement rather than a simple transcription. The characteristic rhythmic/melodic motif of this tango never stops during its entire duration even though it is easy to forget that it is there, in the accompaniment, while we are playing our soaring melodies above it. The main 16-bar lyrical melody repeats itself four times and we have tried to vary the repetitions in different ways. The possibilities for improvisation, ornamentation and embellishment are infinite, so feel free to be creative ! The “Easier Version” stays always in the neck region.
