Mozart Piano Sonata Nº 7 in C K309: Transcribed for Cello and Simple Accompaniment
Here is Mozart‘s Seventh Piano Sonata K309 in C major, in a transcription for cello and simple accompaniment. The entire sonata has been transposed down by a tone, in order to find both the best register and the best key for the cello adaptation. This brings the outer movements into Bb major and the slow movement into Eb major. The simple accompaniments are offered in two versions: one for piano (or guitar/harp) and another for a second cello.
FIRST MOVEMENT: Allegro con spirito
In the passage from bar 56 to 57, Mozart’s sudden leaps between octaves (changes of register) have been removed to make its playing easier on the cello. This same passage comes two other times in the movement, each time without the octave leaps. The great increase in difficulty that is caused by these register changes just does not seem worth it.

- Cello Part: EDITED
- Cello Part: CLEAN
- Cello Part: EASIER VERSION
- Accompaniment Score (Piano/Harp/Guitar)
SECOND MOVEMENT: Andante un poco adagio
- Cello Part: EDITED
- Cello Part: CLEAN
- Cello Part: EASIER VERSION
- Accompaniment Score (Harp/Guitar/Piano)
THIRD MOVEMENT: Rondeau. Allegretto Grazioso
This movement is a monster ! The cello part only barely squeezes onto three pages, which is fortunate because there is not a single moment of rest for a page turn in the entire movement. Even the accompaniment part for a second cello requires three pages.
