Duos for Cello and Viola
TRADITIONAL FIDDLE TUNES
The cellofun transcriptions of traditional fiddle tunes for cello have been systematically arranged also for cello and viola duos. These are equal-protagonism duos in which, in every piece, the melodies (and accompaniments) are played alternately by both instruments. When the viola has the accompanying bassline, it can be played with great vigour and resonance to make up for the fact that it is sounding an octave higher than what would be an ideal bass register:
