Mozart Violin Sonata K376 in F: Transcribed For Cello
This sparkling Mozart Violin Sonata is offered here in a transcription for cello. Because the transcription is in the original key, any standard piano part can be used (see www.imslp.org). For the cello, many passages lie in the higher registers and require the use of the thumb. Therefore, to produce the “Easier Versions” (which stay always in the Neck Region), almost 70% of the cello’s interventions of the first movement, and half of those of the last movement, needed to be transposed down an octave. The slow movement is, by contrast, quite low, with only 1/4 of the cello’s interventions needing to be put in the lower octave.
FIRST AND SECOND MOVEMENTS
The first and second movements of this sonata are published together simply because of page layout considerations. The chords in bars 1-2 and 74-75 are revoiced but apart from that there are no other note changes.
Here are some play-along audios of the piano accompaniments for these two movements, with thanks to the Violin PlayAlong YouTube channel.
FIRST MOVEMENT:
A two-bar introduction has been added so that we can know when to start. The first audio is at a slower practice tempo.
SECOND MOVEMENT:
THIRD MOVEMENT
No notes have been changed in the cello transcription of this movement.
