Paganini On The Cello
Practicing and playing the music of Paganini, on any instrument, is the essence of “fun” in music – or it would be if only it wasn’t so difficult ! Perhaps it is unfortunate that Paganini was such an extraordinary violinist because, while we tend to associate his music with great virtuosity and extreme difficulty, he was also an excellent composer. His music extends not only our technical skills but also our interpretative stage persona, offering us a vehicle for great expressivity in a very intense Italian, operatic, theatrical style in which beautiful emotive bel canto melodies are interspersed with sensationally extroverted pyrotechnics and good-humoured circus tricks.
