Valse Touriste for Cello and Piano by James Nicholas

As with so many comedians, James Nicholas has a very serious side: a former student of Janos Starker and a PhD from Indiana University, he is also an accomplished horn player, composer and ……. a (now retired) professional fireman! Despite his many serious occupations, he has kindly offered us some of his forays into the world of musical humour. Here is one of them: “Valse T(ou)riste”. Originally composed for saxophone but here transcribed by the composer for cello, he describes his piece as “a delightfully ummmmmm ……winsome excursion through the nations”:

  1.  Cello Part
  2.      Piano Score
