Mozart Violin Sonata K305 in A Major: For Cello
This two-movement sonata is transcribed here for cello (and piano) in its original key. Only the cello parts are offered because any standard piano accompaniment part can be used (see www.imslp.org).
FIRST MOVEMENT: Allegro di Molto
The only note changes for the first movement “Concert Version” are the revoicing of the final chords of each section (bars 73 and 173) and of the double stop in bar 110. As usual however, for the “Easier Version” (only in the Neck Region), some passages have been taken down an octave and some notes have been changed to make the most difficult passages more playable.
Here is a play-along audio file of the piano accompaniment, with many thanks to Neil Crossland and his excellent YouTube channel. A two-bar introduction has been added so that we can know when to start playing.
SECOND MOVEMENT: Theme and Variations (Andante Grazioso)
In this movement, we can easily have the feeling that this is a Piano Sonata with the string instrument taking a secondary role. No notes have been changed for the cello “Performance Version”.
Here is a play-along audio file of the piano accompaniment, with many thanks once again to Neil Crossland and his excellent YouTube channel. Instead of just the piano’s original 8th note, a full two-bar piano introduction has been added to help us to know when to start playing. In the YouTube version of this accompaniment, as in Mozart’s original score, all the variations are repeated, which makes the movement last approximately 12 minutes. Without the repeats, this movement lasts a little over 6 minutes which is still quite a long time for a Mozart Sonata movement, so in the accompaniment audio offered here all the repeats have been removed.
