Traditional Fiddle Tunes: “New Century”: For Cello
This little tune is so similar to “Hunting The Hare” that we might consider them as non-identical twins. The similarity of their openings makes it very easy to get confused and forget what the differences between them are. As with many of the Traditional Fiddle Tunes that we have transcribed for cello, the simple original tune has been treated in several different ways (by varying the speed, articulations, dotted rhythms and accompaniment styles), thus creating five consecutive “variants” of increasing liveliness, each of which has a different character even though the notes remain always the same.
